Paul has lived in Arizona since 1974.  He practices in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, ethics, and professional malpractice. Paul has been a Certified Specialist in Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation by the State Bar of Arizona Board of Legal Specialization since 1997.  He is also Certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification in Civil Pretrial Practice Advocacy and Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In addition, Paul is a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and is an Associate with the American Board of Trial Advocacy. 

His undergraduate degree is from the University of Arizona in 1985. He graduated from California Western School of Law in 1989.   After law school, he received a master’s degree in bioethics in 2004 from Midwestern University/ Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Paul also received a Doctorate of Philosophy in 2006 in distance learning with LaCrosse University, where his dissertation was entitled “Morality and Ethics:  An Analysis of Medical Legal and Business Ethics from a Casuist Perspective”.

Paul was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 1989, the State Bar of Colorado in 1992, the District of Columbia and the Federal Bar in 2004.  He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court of Arizona, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.

Paul has served the legal profession as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court since 2005. Paul was the Attorney Board Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Board of Legal Document Preparers since 2007 and continued as an initial Board Member of the newly formed Board of Non-Lawyer Professionals.  He has been an Attorney Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Attorney Disciplinary Panel since the rules were revised in 2011 and a Settlement Hearing Officer since 2019.   Paul has also been a Member of the Arizona Supreme Court Commission on Judicial Performance Review since 2012.  He was asked by Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Scott Bales to serve on the Supreme Court Task Force on the Delivery of Legal Services and has served as on the State Bar of Arizona Fee Arbitration Committee since 2012.

After serving as the Special Assistant to the Arizona State Attorney General from 1997-2000 and recovering approximately $3,000,000,000 for the State of Arizona, he has continued to work diligently litigating complex civil cases. Paul has received numerous multi-million dollar judgments and has consistently been honored as receiving top ten jury verdicts in the State of Arizona; most notably $58,500,000 in 2019 and $2,800,000 in 2022. 

In addition to his work as a trial attorney, Paul served as an Adjunct Professor at Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2004 until 2012 and as an Adjunct Professor at the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law at Arizona State University from 2020-2022.  He is a nationally recognized speaker, writer, and expert in the areas of bad faith, civil litigation, personal injury, wrongful death, professional malpractice, and ethics.
